The most common and economic sizing for program printing is 5.5 x 8.5. It is the perfect sizing for a program without being too cumbersome and is also the most affordable size.
Avoid placing text or images within ¼” of the edge of your pages at the very least. It looks cleaner and is less likely to be trimmed too close to the edge due to the production process.
Don’t be afraid to go a bit smaller with font sizing for the bio section. As long as it is clearly legible, you can save money by condensing your booklet to a lesser page count.
If you need to add pages to make a multiple of four, consider adding a page or pages for notes, or even autographs!
Folded or stapled event programs need to have pages in multiples of four due to the production process which is called saddle stitch. A program booklet is simply a sheet of paper folded in half in order to make 4 separate panels, with multiple sheets being stapled together in the middle. In other words, one folded sheet is 4 booklet pages, while 2 folded sheets make 8 booklet pages.
